POWERFUL ENERGY INFORMATION

GridPoint’s home energy management software is currently deployed in an energy conservation program developed by Milton Hydro, Direct Energy and Bell Canada.

Through the GridPoint consumer portals, hundreds of participating home owners are able to monitor their energy use, understand their historical consumption and remotely control the lighting and operation of appliances through the internet and smart phone devices.

Key highlights from the initial phase of the program include:

• The top 10 percent of participants saved 16 percent off their electricity usage over 12 months and saved 18 percent off their peak period consumption
• A select group of participants saw savings of 44 percent during provincial demand response periods
• Consumers were motivated by dollar savings and environmental benefits
• Larger homes saw the biggest impact on energy savings

The innovated smart home project is taking place in Milton, Canada’s fastest-growing community, located in the Greater Toronto Area. The Ontario government has designated Milton as a priority location for the installation of smart metering.
