Where can I buy a GridPoint appliance?
GridPoint has a national network of certified GridPoint installers. Contact GridPoint at info@gridpoint.com or 1-888-998-GRID (1-888-998-4743) to find a dealer near you.

I already have solar PV panels installed on my home or business. Can a GridPoint appliance work with my existing system?
Yes. In most cases the GridPoint Connect Series appliance can be used with existing solar systems. If you have not previously had battery backup, your installer will most likely need to run new wires from your panels.

Do GridPoint appliances work with solar thermal panels?
No. There are two types of solar panels: solar thermal and solar electric (called photovoltaic or PV) panels. Thermal panels generally heat water while PV panels generate electricity. GridPoint products work with electricity and thus do not work with solar thermal panels.

I have a renewable energy, electrical contracting, HVAC, construction or consulting business, and I would like to learn about how I may partner with GridPoint to become a certified GridPoint reseller. How can I apply?
GridPoint welcomes qualified new partners. If you have relevant experience and would like to learn more about becoming a certified GridPoint reseller, contact GridPoint at info@gridpoint.com or 1-888-998-GRID (1-888-998-4743) to speak with a business development specialist.

What will I be able to power with my GridPoint? How long will my backup power last?
GridPoint appliances are designed to power "critical loads" in the event of a utility power outage. You and your GridPoint installer can decide what are appropriate critical loads for your needs.

Your available power is defined by several factors:

  1. How much battery storage capacity you have in your GridPoint appliance (GridPoint products currently come with 10 kilowatt-hours of backup storage capacity.  An additional 20 kilowatt-hours is available as an add-on accessory. See the GridPoint Product Catalog for details.)
  2. How much energy you are drawing out of your batteries.
Like a bucket of water being drained from the bottom and filled from the top, your batteries will be able to support your critical loads as long as they have energy stored — or ‘‘water in the bucket.'' With the GridPoint Protect Series, the power you use during an outage is the drain on the batteries, which will be replenished once utility power is restored. With the GridPoint Connect Series, the power you use during an outage is the drain on the batteries while your renewable energy source is the spigot replenishing your batteries' available energy. The larger your initial battery capacity, the greater your initial supply of energy.

Can I save money by installing a GridPoint system?
Home offices and light commercial companies have the clearest economic motivation for purchasing GridPoint appliances. If business stops, computers crash, or security systems fail during a power outage, businesses lose revenue or perishable goods. Having reliable, automatic and instantaneous GridPoint backup power mitigates those risks. If the grid power fails even once for our business customers, a GridPoint system often pays for itself within the first year.

GridPoint appliances help customers reduce energy consumption and therefore reduce energy costs. In conjunction with GridPoint CentralSM, an online energy management portal, GridPoint appliances manage a user's consumption preferences, such as turning off water heaters while the house is unoccupied or running appliances during off-peak periods.

The GridPoint Connect Series appliance also enables customers to sell excess energy produced by renewable energy sources (solar or wind) to the utility, thus reducing the electricity bill. In locations where net metering is available, utilities are required to credit consumers at the same price they would have charged during that period (e.g., selling back to the utility during peak hours means a credit at peak prices).

Are renewable energy sources expensive?
Incorporating renewable energy is economic under many circumstances for both business and residential customers. With expanding government incentives, improving finance options, and rising electricity prices, renewable energy is more affordable now than ever before. GridPoint systems expand the benefits of renewable energy integration by providing backup power and integrated monitoring.

Since utility pricing structures and incentives for renewable energy differ from region to region, check with your local GridPoint installer to make sure that you are benefiting from all of the incentive programs available to you. For a list of rebates and incentives, you may wish to visit www.dsireusa.org.

Your GridPoint installer will help you take advantage of these and other available incentives where possible.

How much does a GridPoint appliance cost?
Please contact us for up-to-date pricing information.

Where should I store the appliance?
GridPoint appliances are designed for clean, quiet operation inside the home – an advantage over traditional generators that are noisy, need to be stored outside and can be disruptive to neighbors. Most of our customers place their GridPoint appliance in a closed garage, basement or utility closet. For maximum efficiency, it should be placed near the load panel.

Can I buy extra battery capacity for my GridPoint?
GridPoint offers expanded battery options to increase the backup power storage capacity of your GridPoint appliance. Your GridPoint representative can help you determine your backup power needs and customize your solution accordingly.

How big is a GridPoint?
GridPoint appliances are 26" deep, 24" wide and 52" tall — about the size of a small refrigerator. Electrical codes in most states require at least three feet of clear space to the left of the GridPoint so that your installer will have ample room to stand as he or she plugs in your wires. Fully installed with batteries, which make up the bulk of the weight, GridPoint appliances weigh upwards of 900 pounds.
