Optimize Generation and T&D Assets
Off-Peak Charge. On-Peak Discharge. Targeted Deployments.
GridPoint SmartGrid Platform goes beyond supplying peak power and advanced load reduction by enabling utilities to optimize existing generation, transmission and distribution (T&D) assets.
The platform shapes generation by maximizing existing baseload generation assets. During off-peak periods, GridPoint SmartGrid Platform recharges using baseload generation. During peak periods, utilities can dispatch this energy to supply peak power, avoiding the need to turn on expensive and less fuel efficient peaking technologies. Since baseload resources are often less carbon intensive than traditional peaking resources, GridPoint SmartGrid Platform also reduces the carbon footprint of utilities and their customers.
The distributed nature of the platform provides utilities with the ability to target deployments in areas where transmission and distribution lines are under stress. By deploying GridPoint systems in these areas, utilities can utilize a local supply of stored energy and leverage available renewable energy sources to reduce stress on transmission lines and distribution feeders. Utilities can also encourage the adoption of renewable energy sources within a specific area, which naturally reduces peak load growth by allowing customers to draw from these sources to reduce the supply of energy required from the grid.
To further reduce strain on transmission and distribution lines in specific areas, utilities can also leverage GridPoint SmartGrid Platform’s advanced load reduction capabilities, as well as offer value-added services to customers including backup power and energy conservation.
