Reduce Customers’ Peak Loads
Utility-controlled circuit-level management
Unlike most demand response solutions, GridPoint SmartGrid Platform places control in the hands of utilities and provides unparalleled load measurement, control and verification at the circuit level to offer sophisticated demand response programs.
GridPoint SmartGrid Platform’s innovative circuit-level approach, also referred to as sub-metering, provides real-time visibility into the actual number of kilowatts that can be shed during a peak event. The power flowing through each controlled circuit is measured and recorded in any interval, from one second to one hour or more. By measuring the loads, utilities gain actual versus estimated data on consumption patterns and magnitudes from the air conditioner, heat pump, water heater, pool pump, etc.
During and after a peak event, this unique circuit-level measurement provides utilities with precise control (e.g., how much load can actually be shed by interrupting water heaters served by a specific substation, or even a specific feeder) and verification of how much load was actually shed. Utilities can create verification reports in multiple views (e.g., aggregate, customers served by a specific substation, or an individual customer), enabling utilities for the first time to compensate individual customers based on their actual participation.
Additionally, GridPoint SmartGrid Platform supports both on-demand and scheduled events. For example, a control center operator may decide to schedule a demand response event for a specific time the following day. Based on actual historical usage, the platform provides utilities with a high degree of confidence in the amount of load expected to be shed. At the appointed time, the platform automatically executes the curtailment, records the performance and provides a report verifying the actual amount of load that was shed.
