GridPoint Selected by AlwaysOn as Overall Winner of the GoingGreen 100 Top Private Companies for 2007
Recognized for Leadership in Clean Technology and Global Business Potential
WASHINGTON, Sept. 10, 2007 – GridPoint, Inc., a leading clean tech company whose smart grid platform benefits electric utilities, consumers and the environment, today announced that it has been chosen by AlwaysOn as the Overall Winner of the GoingGreen 100 Top Private Companies for 2007. The first-annual elite GoingGreen 100 list was compiled by the AlwaysOn editorial panel. In order to be eligible for the GoingGreen 100 list, companies had to be peer-nominated, with AlwaysOn receiving more than 500 nominations from venture investors, investment bankers and other industry experts.
"The AlwaysOn GoingGreen 100 companies will accelerate the global movement to a more sustainable environment," said Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn. "The ideas and innovation we saw as we reviewed hundreds of clean technology companies will be foundational to the next wave of economic growth in California and beyond. My congratulations to each AlwaysOn GoingGreen 100 winner —these are the companies which we predict will have the greatest market traction, strongest innovation and most game-changing approaches this year."
GridPoint and the GoingGreen 100 Top Private Companies for 2007 will be honored at AlwaysOn GoingGreen to be held at the University of California in Davis today through Wednesday. GoingGreen is a two-and-a-half-day executive gathering that highlights the significant impact clean technologies have on new economic growth and in sustainable use of natural resources. The idea behind the GoingGreen 100 top private companies list is to identify the most promising entrepreneurial opportunities and investments in the clean technology industry.
“We are honored to be recognized among so many outstanding companies,” said Peter L. Corsell, President and CEO, GridPoint. “The interest in this event demonstrates the significant growth of the clean tech industry as well as the value these companies are providing to investors and society.”
GridPoint is the pioneer of an innovative smart grid platform that aligns the interests of electric utilities, consumers and the environment. The platform applies information technology to the electric grid to provide utilities with an intelligent network of distributed resources (e.g., load control devices, batteries, solar systems) that reside at the point of consumption – the home or business. During peak demand periods, utilities can discharge stored power into the grid or reduce loads with minimal impact on customers (i.e. controlling temperature versus shutting down air conditioners).
Utilities avoid the regulatory, environmental and "time-to-build" hurdles associated with building new power plants while fueling the mass adoption of renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions and conserving fuel, capital and land resources. Additionally, the platform’s modular, scaleable and upgradeable architecture enables utilities to create a practical path for integrating new clean technologies (e.g., plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and fuel cells).
For consumers, GridPoint’s platform provides protection from power outages, increases energy efficiency through online energy management and integrates utility-controlled renewable energy systems, paving the way for the commercial success of residential and light commercial solar and wind energy sources.
