PHEVs Overview

The GridPoint SmartGrid Platform offers the missing link to effective management and optimization of PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) charging. The platform's modular architecture can incorporate all standards presently in development for PHEVs.

Utilities gain complete control over when and how fast PHEVs are charged, allowing utilities to optimize generating assets. Utilities can offer PHEV owners value-based differentiated pricing, billing lower rates for utility-controlled off-peak charging and higher rates during peak hours. The platform enables utilities to optimize a new revenue stream, while offering customers significantly reduced charging costs and limiting peak load growth.

Through the GridPoint Customer Portal, customers gain easy-to-understand pricing and environmental data based on their PHEV usage (e.g. driving your PHEV today versus a traditional vehicle reduced your carbon dioxide emissions by 27 percent). When PHEV communication standards are established, additional information such as mileage and gasoline consumption will be provided through the portal.
