What is the Smart Device Grant Program?

Hawaii Energy is launching The Smart Device Grant Program to help small and medium business customers install smart metering devices at their locations. This grant program is targeting businesses with high energy consumption, typically through air-conditioning and refrigeration usage. Businesses include quick-service restaurants, convenience stores, and grocery stores.

The first pilot provides qualified businesses up to 50% funding, or up to $5,000, for the deployment of smart metering technology.

What are smart devices?

GridPoint’s smart building platform helps businesses make their buildings more efficient in order to lower costs, achieve energy goals, and contribute to a more sustainable future. Through a combination of smart devices, cloud-based software, and building controls, the technology collects deep building data, analyzes energy and facility patterns, identifies inefficiencies, and tells a building what to do to be most efficient. This visibility unlocks powerful, actionable insights designed to make businesses more resilient long-term.

GridPoint’s platform also enables grid-interactive programs which further lowers energy costs and drives sustainability at the grid-level. By installing smart meters and energy management controls now, the technology is being put in place for a more dynamic and sustainable grid in the future.
