Job Summary:

GridPoint is growing rapidly. Because our product is delivered as an equipment-enabled energy management subscription service, we rely on a delivery process that is seamless for our customers.  The Commercial Generator Field Application Engineer is responsible for the planning and scoping of commercial generator and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) installations.  They will work together with the GridPoint Project Manager to define schedule, budget, risk, requirements and changes for complex projects or programs surrounding the installation of our energy and grid-connected solutions, with a focus on commercial generators.  They will complete technical drawings and documents related to the installation and ensure all aspects of the project are done within regulations and compliance with all related codes.  In addition, they may develop client relationships and sales opportunities.

This role requires a candidate to develop a deep understanding of how integrated demand-side management solutions play a key role in providing customers energy savings and Utility solutions to meet the changing needs of the 21st century energy grid.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Create technical documents, drawings, site survey requirements and bid packages associated with complex commercial generator solutions.
  • Develop a deep understanding of how generators are used for events like demand curtailing and other utility driven events.
  • Create quality and other GridPoint standards for field implementation around generator installations and other utility driven programs.
  • Evaluate Automatic Transfer Switches for compatibility with GridPoint system
  • Review building drawings, schematics, and installation documentation to assist installers and internal teams alike in best installation solutions and troubleshooting site conditions.
  • Create one-line drawings and technical documentation as required.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with communication, hardware and software failures and other required duties for Gridpoint Energy Monitoring and Control systems.
  • Assist Sales and their Customers with review and understanding of bid packages.
  • Assist subcontractors with review and understanding of scopes of work.
  • Communicate with subcontractors regarding quality issues and corrective actions.
  • Make constructive suggestions to the Department Manager on improving procedures, productivity & efficiency.
  • Keep the Department Manager informed of major developments on every project.
  • Communicate on-going program reporting and KPIs to Delivery Project Manager, GridPoint management and external partners.


  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering (electrical/mechanical) or equivalent.
  • At least 5-7 years of experience in a related position involving commercial generator installation or supervision.
  • Deep understanding of Commercial Generators and ATS Switches is required
  • Experience in installation of Commercial Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) would be desired.
  • Strong understanding of building codes, local permit process, generator emission testing and related certifications
  • Building automation, electrical and/or building operation experience preferred.
  • OSHA 10 Hour – if not already received, then willing to take course
  • Proficient skills in schematic drawing software and Microsoft Office (Project, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio)
  • The ability to demonstrate energy and determination to achieve results and improvement by overcoming obstacles, remaining effective despite setbacks and challenging current thinking.
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to effectively manage time and resources.
  • Self-motivated with focus on results and sense of urgency.
