New Software Applications Provide Open Approach for Customers to Leverage Existing Investments

Arlington, VA – May 30, 2014 – GridPoint, an innovator in comprehensive, data-driven energy management systems (EMS) that enable customers to optimize energy savings, facility efficiency and sustainability efforts, today announced that it has released the GridPoint Cloud Connector for Niagara, GridPoint’s first open platform connector product. The new solution allows customers to leverage existing investments and environments using application programming interfaces (APIs), on-site drivers and cloud connectors, and is designed to aggregate data from multiple sources for a more holistic energy picture.GridPoint Cloud Connector for Niagara Provides Enterprise-Wide Energy Visibility

With more than 400,000 instances of the Niagara platform installed globally, Tridium’s technology helps businesses implement effective controls throughout the enterprise. When this technology is combined with GridPoint’s cloud-based big data analytics software platform, GridPoint Energy Manager, businesses are given a comprehensive view into their energy consumption. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), lighting, refrigeration, renewable and other energy and non-energy related data are seamlessly transmitted from the NiagaraAX software platform to GridPoint Energy Manager, giving users site-level visibility into structured data across the enterprise.

“Combining GridPoint’s advanced submetering and cloud-based energy management and analytics platform with our industry-leading Niagara Framework-based solutions gives customers greater and more flexible control over management of their energy usage,” said Nino DiCosmo, general manager for Tridium. “As the advanced energy management market continues its rapid growth, our combined products will offer both smart energy solutions and intelligent building automation that provide quantifiable, actionable information leading to better decisions and greater energy savings.”

Asset-level submetering is beneficial because unlike traditional metering solutions, which only measure total site energy usage, submetering allows energy managers to delve deeper into energy consumed by individual assets to optimize equipment performance, implement smarter alarms and intelligently manage crucial projects.

“As cloud-based approaches to energy management become more prevalent, an open approach like the GridPoint Cloud Connector for Niagara will be essential to businesses who want to integrate new solutions into existing environments and get the maximum value out of their EMS investments,” said Todd M. Raba, president and CEO of GridPoint.

Enhanced Equipment Integration for Better Data Organization

When businesses install equipment from various vendors across multiple sites, it is often installed by different contractors resulting in important data labeled differently across the enterprise. If data is not labeled properly, downstream analytics are more costly and less accurate. GridPoint’s Open Connect Platform applications listen locally, translate the data and allow users to assign consistent labels to which GridPoint Energy Manger can apply its analytics and create useful reports for customers. The GridPoint Open Connect Platform supports Tridium’s NiagaraAX platform, as well as common communication protocols such as BACnet and Modbus for on-site integration with Trane, Lennox, Carrier and other energy-consuming assets.
