GridPoint intelligent control algorithms drive energy savings at quick serve restaurants

Arlington, VA –March 11, 2015 –GridPoint, an innovator in comprehensive, data-driven energy management systems (EMS), today announced that Boddie-Noell Enterprises, the largest Hardee’s franchise operator in the United States, has deployed GridPoint’s state-of-the-art solution at a majority of its 334 restaurants, with plans to deploy to the remaining sites in 2015 and beyond. GridPoint’s integrated energy management portfolio of asset-level submetering and monitoring, intelligent control, energy management software and professional services helped the franchisee achieve energy savings goals.

Boddie-Noell’s energy savings were reached through controlling or monitoring building systems and restaurant equipment including ventilation hoods, ovens, coolers and freezers, rooftop units and lighting circuits. In addition to standard scheduling and override functionality implemented enterprise-wide, the franchise operator also implemented GridPoint’s HVAC setback and recovery advanced control algorithms at each site in order to run HVAC systems efficiently while maintaining customer comfort. Select locations took advantage of GridPoint’s load curtailment algorithm, which is designed to reduce peak energy consumption. Finally, GridPoint initiated freezer and cooler alarms to alert Boddie-Noell when temperatures rise above or below desired ranges.

“Boddie-Noell’s sophisticated facilities team leverages the GridPoint data and diagnostics tools and applies that insight to improve facility maintenance and efficiency of operation,” says Rick Hammock, Senior Director of Facilities Management. “Our vision is to expand Boddie-Noell’s use of vital asset-level submetering and monitoring data by equipping our facilities managers with GridPoint Energy Manager.”

As part of the comprehensive solution, Boddie-Noell gained access to GridPoint’s cloud-based software platform, GridPoint Energy Manager, which aggregates and presents data collected at each site, including equipment-level energy data and environmental data such as temperature and humidity. Additional support is provided through GridPoint’s Energy Advisory Services, a team of data analysts that assist with report generation, savings analysis and operational efficiency recommendations.

“Working with Boddie-Noell to shape their energy management strategy has been rewarding because the franchise operator understands how critical energy management is to achieving substantial savings and operating restaurants smoothly,” says Mark Danzenbaker, Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Product Management at GridPoint. “Boddie-Noell chose to employ a rate-informed strategy and GridPoint’s flexible approach enables them to accomplish this successfully and cost-effectively.”
